Custom Fitted!

Hey dolls! So as some of you my know I have started customising. I have created some pieces just to demonstrate what I can do but I figured if I'm starting small this should be a made to order process. So it works two ways, you can either let me go out and find a vintage piece or you have an item of clothing that you want to be customised! Both ways you can tell me exactly what you want me to do or let me go crazy and do my own thang the choice is yours.

I found some ah-mazing pieces in vintage shops and i just envisioned what I could do to make them stand out even more. Just think of me as the vintage section in topshop for like a third of the price!

So below are some of the pieces and what I did, adding studs, spikes, dying, fraying material and adding african material.

This piece below seems to be getting most of the attention, and is my personal fav so far! it took me the looongest to do and plan but came out really well!

"Finally got paid now I need shade and a vacay..."

Hey dolls, so this is my holiday wardrobe so to speak I didn't get all my outfits photographed, my bad enjoying the holiday too much! But I tried my best!

When I was holiday shopping I wanted bright fun colours and am easy breezy look, not too much fuss going on so I could just throw it on and stroll to the beach. I really wanted a tropical pattern trouser, they had quite a selection in primark which surprised me, so check it out.

top: h&m
trousers: primark

Cut ouuuuts, which I said I was in love with obvy inspired this look I call it a 'diy' cut out because by tying the top I'm showing a little bit of skin and the high waisted skirt keeps it classy!
top: primark
skirt: primark

A lot of sheer material was packed and worn! Perfect cover up whilst staying cool in the heat! Also I finally got my dip hem skirt! I love it, it instantly puts a bit of glamour in an outfit!

skirt: h&m

I love all sorts of aztec and tribal prints, river island killed it with this dress adding a coloured fringe and slits down the side!

maxi: river island

For evening and dinner I wanted to keep it simple but still dressy, more accessories and layering was used.

For me cover ups were the thing! lol I had so many! sheer ones, cut out ones etc...

The thing I wish I had more of was maxi skirts, its so easy to put together an outfit based around a maxi!

That vacay was needed! It was fun, relaxing and it makes me want to succeed at what ever I do in the future more so I can afford MORE holidays!!!! And explore the world as whole...

Overall it was such a great trip! Cape Verde is stunning, and the people are beautiful too I would, no I will defo go back! :)

Refresh

So it has been a whiiiile I'm back from holiday and have been for a while but I have been going through some serious post-vacay depression. After leaving my life for a week I realised the full picture of everything I need to sort out in my life, it all dawned on me and it was scary...

But God does not give us any we cannot handle, and his time is best so with that being said I'm currently writing a list call it a life plan if you will, of things, projects, events that I need to organise, do and attend. I work best with lists I'm an old school organisation freak who has to write everything down , so why I have not done this earlier the mind wonders! Also this coud be why so much has piled up on me at the same time!

That was just a quick update there are a lot of things that I'm planning, and the blog post on holiday outfits will be up soon! x

Countdown

Hi Dolls!

So I have been a little distant from my blog lately as preparations for my holiday *booty shakes*  and just sorting out my life in general has taken over! But no fear I will be taking daily outfit pics on holiday and I'll be sure to get them to you! My inspiration for my holiday looks... the sun! everything I have bought and plan to wear is light and breezy with colours everywhere :) there is no definite style with me, so as always the looks from day to day will be varied.

The one thing that I knew I would have trouble with whilst holiday shopping is swim wear... as most ladies know you may be a "size 10" but on a bikini top you end up being a size 14... sigh! My advice is to shop for bikinis EARLY especially during sales there is no mad rush to find your size and no one else is really looking for swim wear during sales so the choice is all yours! Even if you are not planning a holiday! All of my bikinis were bought on sale before I even knew I was going anywhere!? Everybody thought I was mad lol there is sense in my madness! I love freya and seafolly, they compliment everybody shape with one pieces and bikinis. In terms of cuts, I loooooove halter necks on myself personally and a high waist bikini bottom looks great on most shapes.

The high waist...

LOOOVE the bottoms and the cut out detail on the side, right on trend.

The colour...

I'm loving seafolly's new collection of vibrant colours in their swimwear! This shade of orange would look gorge on tanned holiday skin!
seafolly

The halter neck...

This is great for all my ladies with a bust! I absolutely love halter necks and freya swim wear gives great support. As you can guess majority of my bikinis are halter necks!

freya

The one piece...

Not every one is a victoria secret model and has the confidence to dash out on a beach in a string bikini... the one piece is coming back with a bang! Still just as sexy as a bikini with a hint of classiness the one piece looks gorgeous on every shape and size! Im loving the play on a halter neck and the high waist band! Also the print is beautiful.

The cover up

A chic way to cover up your bikini and not melt under the heat, I'm loving this sheer kaftan style dress! Perfect to throw on during a holiday...

river island

I just noticed it looks like I have a thing for orange it actually used to be my fav colour when I was younger, but none of my swimwear is orange!? go figure... lol

A week in the sun is just what I need right now! The countdown has officially begun!

Beauty Secret: the cleanser

This is my fav product for my face, it clears away all of my make up at the end of the day and tones my skin in the morning. The seaweed mixture is perfect for my combination skin as it does not heavily moisturise or dry it out. Also as I don't wear make up that often any more it leaves my skin refreshed and ready for the day. It really does clarify and make my skin clear of blemishes and spots.

Body Shop
Seaweed clarifying toner
£7.00

I would really recommend this product to any one with combination skin (oily in some places dry in others) that have trouble with spots or if your just looking for a good toner! x

Beauty Secret : The body scrub

As some of you may know I'm more of a fashion addict than a beauty addict, but I believe they both really go hand in hand. So I've decided to let you in on a few of my beauty secrets that make me feel extra special.

Body Shop
Mango body scrub
usually £12.50 but its now on sale online for £9.37!
This little gem I have to say is one of my favourite products! Not only does it leave you skin amazingly smooth it has a moisturising base so it does not dry out our skin at all! Also your skin smells of mangoes ALL DAY! even after you moisturise and spray deodorant, perfume and all sorts!

This is defo an essential buy for me x

Custom made

Over the past couple of weeks I have been experimenting with my sewing and knitting skills and just decided to customise some old denim I was bored with.

I took some african material and hand stitched it onto my jeans shorts and denim shirt. I love to customise I'm looking to use studs and spikes next but its so hard to find spikes locally and I hate getting stuff like that online!

If you have any enquires or you want me to customise a piece of your clothing contact me through email : ookoye@btinternet.com

I used orange thread on the shorts to contrast with the green print, I also used a vintage scarf as a belt.

I used a deep purple thread to stand out against all the colours on this material with my denim shirt.

More to come hopefully! x

Are you inspired!?

So I decided to clean up my blog a lil bit make it fresh and clean for summer! :) What do you think!?

Even though summer is not quite upon us yet I'm already inspired maybe its because I have so much planned! Well I decided to treat you guys with a preview of what I will most likely be wearing and looks that are just genrally fabulous.

Sheer blouses and denim

Perfect for the summer! If your going to show a bit of leg keep it covered on top to keep it classy! But you will still stay cool with a nice sheer material.

Palazzo/ wide leg

Perfect for the summer if you want something from day to evening these trousers are perfect, so light and breezy. It's like the comfort of trousers with the flow of a skirt!

The coloured jean

I had to represent with my internship brand! BBS jeans with their amazing coloured jeans available in pastel and neon shades! I can also tell you I have seen a preview of next seasons jeans and they are too die for!!! Think of a cross between leather pants and jeans, sounds crazy but the look is gorgeous!

With a coloured jean you could either colour block with a bright coloured tank top of just keep it simple with a white top.

The split maxi dress

The maxi dress and skirt has been around for a while but try mixing it up with a maxi dress with a side split and racer back! I actually have this dress already in black and orange. It is perfect for a day out in the sun, looks great with a wedge or sandal, and you can throw over a top or shirt to change up the look!

Dip hem skirts

I am yet to try one of these on but I love the look of them!

Mesh and crop and cut out!

Mesh to me is great because your showing a bit of skin but hiding it at the same time keeping it chic and classy and notice the neon and pastel colours are really popular right now!

Again cut outs for the summer another way to show a bit of skin but keep it classy and far from tacky! *keep an eye out for maxi dresses with cut outs!* They also look great!

Crop tops look great with denim shorts, disco pants and high waited skirts! Great for the summer.

Shades

I need a pair of round shades in my life for the summer! It's about the only pair I need to add to my collection! :)

Off the topic (light vs dark)

Now I dont normally comment on stuff like this I let it go over my head because my mother always said "the best answer to a fool is silence!" But seriously articles like http://pardonmyblog.co.uk/archives/20781 with the author claiming he wanted to cause controversy then recoiling when an outburst happened brought me out of my vow of silence. I personally think a smooth ebony skin tone is gorgeous, is this a 'preference' yes, but am I stereotyping and bringing other races or skin tones down whilst doing this!? NO.

The sweeping statements in the article were flawed and I guess with the massive and angry response he received he's thinking 'hmm, see I'm right!?' Defending your self is not always an outcry of being insecure, think about it, if someone is out of line you have to put them in their place.

If the writer was referring to PERSONAL experiences he should of only referred to those instances, instead the piece goes on to generalise and says 'most' or 'majority' bringing the full scope of dark skinned women into the debate. Personally if I'm referred to as light or dark, I don't care, but thats me, if someone has been constantly beat down throughout history because of their skin tone can you really be surprised at people being defensive!? Instead of writing something to uplift black women of all shades something like this is seen as a 'hot controversial topic' frankly it is old and played out. Man or woman, light or dark, ugly or Gabrielle Union fine we ALL have our insecurities whether you speak on it or not they are still there! I agree with one point he said, "if your beautiful you are beautiful", shades/race do not come into the equation but then sure enough if your an angry woman, your an angry woman the formula should remain the same, why oh why are skin tones, race, generalisations and stereotypes being entangled in the mix?

Race and skin tone is something that has cast a shadow over the black race as whole for many years you would be silly to think that the wounds that have been inflicted over a course of years can be healed over night and we can just 'get over it'. It will take time ALOT of time and articles such as the one I am commenting on only pushes us back. Opinions are opinions and he is entitled to them, if he has experienced this first hand, fair enough. Although when it comes to the sweeping statements and not expecting to get an angry reaction that is just naive and ignorant to be honest.

I like to embody positivity, and I think embracing and loving your self no matter what race or other definitions of the modern world try to confide you in is the best thing you can do! People will always have opinions and things to say but if you don't love and appreciate yourself no one else truly will.
